First Avenue planned watermain shutdown
Posted | November 3, 2023
Please be advised that the City of Welland is conducting a valve installation on First Avenue on Wednesday, November 8, beginning at 11 p.m. To ensure a successful replacement, a test shutdown will be completed Monday, November 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Water service may be interrupted during that time, so please consider filling clean jugs for drinking and cooking purposes during that time frame. Please refrain from laundry and using the dishwasher until later in the day when the valve testing is complete.
Once the testing is complete, you may temporarily experience discoloured water; this is common and can be quickly rectified by running your cold water only at the lowest point in your home (basement laundry tub, washroom sink). This may take five to 15 minutes. If after 15 minutes you have not seen improvement, please contact the City of Welland Public Works division.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this operation or your water quality, please contact Public Works at 905-735-1700 x3000, and your call will be directed accordingly.

Welland, have your say on motorized vehicles on trails
Posted | October 25, 2023
It's important to use city parks and trails for passive activities only, as motorized vehicles can damage the natural state of the areas and pose hazards to pedestrians. Motorized vehicles in these areas risk everyone's safety and can harm the landscape, an essential part of our social infrastructure.
And that’s why the City of Welland wants to hear from you. Learn more about the definitions and requirements of e-scooters and e-bikes and take a brief survey to help staff prepare any necessary updates to the current by-law. Visit www.engagewelland.ca/ebikes to view the information and take the survey.
According to the current by-law, vehicles include automobiles, motorcycles, motor-assisted bicycles, scooters, trail bikes, dune buggies, mini-bikes, go-carts, trailers, traction engines, farm tractors, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), motorized snow vehicles, and any other powered vehicle. The City of Welland wants to know more about residents' thoughts on using these vehicles on trails and other city-owned properties.
