Welland street sweeping program ready to begin
Posted | April 3, 2024
The City of Welland is starting a city-wide street sweeping program of municipal roadways on April 4. Although this program has the potential to pause due to weather-related conditions, staff anticipate the sweeping will take approximately four-to-six weeks to complete.
Street sweeping will start at the south end of the city and continue systematically to the north end; curb lines within cul-de-sacs will be swept.
Sweeping creates a healthier environment by reducing dust and other airborne mixtures of solid particles and liquid droplets. The program also reduces the amount of material that washes away into the storm sewer system, ultimately leading to the canal, river, and creeks.
How can you help?- Avoid parking your vehicles on the road during this period
- Do not sweep your driveway and sidewalk debris onto the roadway
- Do not sweep the gutter or edge of road material into a pile
- Remove hockey and basketball nets from the edge of the road
For inquiries regarding the City’s street sweeping, please contact the public works department at 905 735-1700 x3000.

Emergency watermain repair of the 106 to 191 block of Ridge Road and all of Rusholme Road
Posted | January 23, 2024
Please be advised that the City of Welland is conducting an emergency watermain repair on the 106 to 191 block of Ridge Road and all of Rusholme Road on Wednesday, January 24, beginning at 1 a.m.
Water service will be interrupted, so please consider filling clean jugs for drinking and cooking purposes during that time frame. Please refrain from laundry and using your dish washer until after the flushing operations are complete.
Once the testing is complete, you may temporarily experience discoloured water; this is common and can be quickly rectified by running your cold water only at the lowest point in your home (basement laundry tub, washroom sink). This may take five to 15 minutes. If after 15 minutes you have not seen improvement, please contact the City of Welland Public Works division.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this operation or your water quality, please contact Public Works at 905-735-1700 x3000, and your call will be directed accordingly.
