
Building or Renovating
The building division of the planning and development services department reviews, plans, and conducts inspections for building permits and unsafe buildings under the Ontario Building Code Act.

Licensing for plumbers and administration of the sewage water alleviation program (SWAP) and lead replacement program (LRP) are also handled by this division.
Please note the City and Regional development charges are indexed and commence on January 1, 2024.
Any permits issued on or after January 1, 2024, are subject to the indexed rates for 2024 unless specified otherwise in the Development Charges Act.
New 2024 Building Code Comes into effect on January 1, 2025 with three months grace period until March 31, 2025 for certain design that are already underway.
Until December 3, 2024- Permit applications must be submitted using 2012 Building Code
- Permit applications may be submitted using the 2012 Building Code if the applicant demonstrates that their working drawings were substantially complete by December 31, 2024
- Permit applications must be submitted using 2024 Building Code.
