Engineering
Welcome to the engineering division, your unsung heroes working behind the scenes of many of Welland’s significant projects. You may be familiar with public works staff because they are visible throughout the city. Our engineering division works closely with public works on projects, including those using consultants and contractors to ensure municipal standards are met.
Engineering and technical services design work and contract administration for streets, bridges, sidewalks, drainage, and other public works projects. The engineering division follows asset management principles to plan and implement construction programs for the City's $1.15B in assets.
The engineering division sets standards and specifications for new developments. Staff review and inspect plans to protect the public interest. Engineering examines the design and construction of public improvements, develops the City’s geographic information system (GIS), conducts surveys to investigate drainage problems, and inspects the construction of private facilities to comply with municipal requirements.
