Welland Fire to announce public education campaign with Enbridge Gas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | October 10, 2024

Welland Fire and Emergency Services and Enbridge Gas are working together to improve home safety and reduce fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths to zero.

Through the Safe Community Project Zero public education campaign with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council, Welland Fire and Emergency Services (WFES) has received 246 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. During this campaign, the Fire Safety Council will provide more than 14,500 alarms to residents in 75 communities across Ontario.

Carbon monoxide is a toxic, odourless gas that is a by-product of incomplete combustion of many types of common fuels. When properly installed and maintained, combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms help provide the early warning to safely escape from a house fire or carbon monoxide exposure.

“Ensuring the safety of our residents is our top priority, and working with Enbridge Gas through Safe Community Project Zero allows us to further protect our community from the dangers of fire and carbon monoxide. These alarms are a vital tool in providing early warning and saving lives. We are grateful for the support and proud to be part of an initiative that brings us closer to the goal of zero fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths,” said Fire Chief Adam Eckhart.

On Tuesday, October 15 at 1 p.m., Welland Fire and Emergency Services and Enbridge Gas are scheduled to make an announcement regarding home safety and the prevention of fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths. The announcement will be held at WFES headquarters at 400 East Main Street, Welland.
