City of Welland leverages AMO Conference to advocate for community priorities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | August 22, 2024

The City of Welland proudly participated in the 2024 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Annual Conference, held from August 18 to 21 in Ottawa. The conference is one of the most significant municipal events in Ontario, bringing together local leaders, government officials, and industry experts to discuss and collaborate on the issues that matter most in communities across the province.

Representing the City of Welland, Mayor Frank Campion, members of City Council, and staff from the Corporate Leadership Team attended the conference to advocate for Welland’s priorities and engage in meaningful dialogue on key matters affecting the city’s future.

“Our participation in the AMO Conference is crucial for ensuring that the needs and aspirations of Welland are heard at the provincial level,” said Mayor Frank Campion. “The meetings we had this year were productive and reaffirmed our commitment to advocating for the resources and support necessary to continue Welland’s growth and development.”

This year’s conference provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with provincial ministers, parliamentary assistants, and other municipalities to discuss topics ranging from infrastructure investment and economic development to education and housing.

During the conference, Welland’s delegation met with several provincial leaders from the following ministries: Infrastructure; Sport; Education; Children, Community, and Social Services; Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade; Health; Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development; and Tourism, Culture, and Gaming.

The AMO Conference also provided a platform for Welland to showcase its innovative projects and initiatives and foster connections with other municipalities facing similar challenges and opportunities.

The City of Welland looks forward to continuing these important conversations and translating them into tangible benefits for the community.
