Open House Notice - City of Welland Brownfield Community Improvement Plan (CIP)
POSTED | July 31, 2026
The City of Welland and its consultants have initiated an update to its existing Brownfield Community Improvement Plan (CIP). A Public Open House is being hosted to obtain your input on the Draft Brownfield CIP. This will be a drop-in session with no formal presentation.
The objective of this CIP update is to continue supporting economic growth, sustainability, human and ecological health, and enhancing the community's livability by remediating and redeveloping brownfields in Welland. This CIP Update has built off the current Brownfield CIP adopted in 2018 and takes into consideration current and future development trends as related to brownfield redevelopment.
The updated Brownfield Community Improvement Plan aims to:
- Support the assessment, site remediation, and redevelopment of brownfield sites to improve the physical and visual quality, alongside the environmental health and public safety.
- Enhance economic development through increased construction activity and potential improvements in profitability of brownfield sites to retain and increase employment opportunities.
- Provide more opportunities for housing and the more efficient use of existing public infrastructure and services and the reduction of urban sprawl and its related costs.
- Increase property tax assessment and property tax revenues on once underutilized sites.
