Open House Notice - City of Welland Downtown and Connected Districts Community Improvement Plan (CIP)

POSTED | July 31, 2026

The City of Welland and its consultants are updating the Downtown and Health and Wellness Cluster Community Improvement Plan (CIP), now renamed the Downtown and Connected Districts CIP, along with the associated Urban Design Guidelines.

A Public Open House is being held to gather community feedback on the draft CIP and Urban Design Guidelines. This will be a drop-in session with no formal presentation.

The updated CIP will support the City's strategic priorities by promoting high-quality urban design, responding to community needs, and encouraging investment, economic growth, and an enhanced quality of life within the CIP Area. The project presents an opportunity to revitalize key districts, attract new investment, strengthen economic opportunities, and create vibrant, attractive places for residents and visitors.

The Downtown and Connected Districts CIP aims to:

  • Expand the existing CIP Area and establish a new vision and set of objectives.
  • Encourage private-sector investment through municipal financial incentive programs.
  • Support and guide community improvement in a coordinated and strategic manner.
  • Promote high-quality urban design that enhances the public realm, supports placemaking, and contributes to a vibrant, attractive, and accessible community.
  • Advance local priorities and complement key City initiatives.
