Municipal street sweeping program set to begin

Posted | March 24, 2025

The City of Welland’s annual street sweeping program will begin on Monday, March 31, and run until the end of April, weather permitting. This program helps keep municipal roadways clean and prevents debris from entering the storm sewer system.

Sweeping will start in the north end of the city and move systematically southward, ensuring curb lines within cul-de-sacs are also cleaned.

Street sweeping improves air quality by reducing dust and airborne particles while also protecting local waterways from debris that can wash into the storm sewer system, eventually reaching the canal, river, and creeks.

How you can help:
  • Avoid parking on the road during the sweeping period
  • Refrain from sweeping driveway or sidewalk debris onto the roadway
  • Do not sweep gutter or road-edge debris into piles
  • Remove hockey and basketball nets from the roadway
