Public engagement sessions announced for Community Improvement Plan updates

Posted | March 6, 2025

The City of Welland is updating two of its existing Community Improvement Plans, and residents, business and property owners, and interested parties are invited to provide their input at two upcoming interactive public engagement sessions.

A Community Improvement Plan (CIP) is a planning tool, authorized under the Ontario Planning Act, that allows municipalities to offer grants, incentives, and programs to stimulate investment, revitalize key areas, and enhance economic development. The City is undertaking updates to its Brownfield CIP and its Downtown and Health and Wellness Cluster CIP to ensure these programs remain effective, align with current and future development trends, and continue to meet community needs.

Brownfield CIP

This update focuses on promoting the remediation and redevelopment of brownfield sites which are previously developed land that may require environmental cleanup before new development can occur. Community engagement is essential for shaping these updates.
