Security screening and bag inspection procedure implemented at City facilities and events
Posted | March 3, 2025
The City of Welland has introduced a Corporate Security Screening and Bag Inspection Procedure, effective immediately, to enhance safety at City facilities and events. This proactive measure ensures the security of residents, employees, and visitors while maintaining public confidence in City spaces.
The procedure follows a tiered approach, meaning security screening will only be activated when necessary. Under normal conditions, routine monitoring will take place, while increased precautions will be implemented only if a credible threat is identified.
The procedure focuses on best practices and preparedness, not creating concern. It also allows the City to respond appropriately to different situations while keeping accessibility and respect for all individuals a priority.
Screening measures will apply to locations such as Civic Square, community centers, parks, and other City-owned spaces. Prohibited items include weapons, hazardous substances, and other restricted materials. The procedure also includes accessibility considerations to ensure an inclusive and respectful process.
When screening measures are in effect, the City will notify the public through on-site signage, social media updates, and official City communications. This ensures residents and visitors remain informed and aware of any security measures.
